Get Your Music Heard

If you are a Naija Musician you'll probably know that the Naija Music scene has been going through an extra ordinary transformation in recent times with Young Naija Artists like P-Square, Dbanj and Tuface selling millions of C.D's between them and becoming household names all over Africa and even worldwide.

As the Naija and African music scene has gone into overdrive many aspiring and established artists along with their producers in Africa and abroad have rushed into the studios to brush up their skills and release track after track leading to an increasingly competitive playing field, with top end Artists like MI Kel, Weird Mc, P-square and so on producing highly entertaining and graphic videos to promote their hits on TV and the Internet

If you're a Naija Artist looking to get your music out there and one day become the next Dbanj, Tuface,M.I or Banky W then getting your music widely heard is crucial. In the past this would usually mean working hard to get as many live performances as possible , trying to get Radio play and eventually TV play if you have a good video.

While all of the above are still relevant and crucial to the promotion and success of your music, nowadays we also have the Internet with social networks like Soundcloud, Myspace,Youtube Facebook, Digg and many more which are now a very good starting points for you to get your music instantly heard by potentially of thousands of viewers.

The Youtube Phenomenon
Youtube by far the biggest site has now become an absolute must even for big established artists, it can guarantee you instant exposure and anything from hundreds to thousands of views per week for example the popular track Igwe by Midnight Crew which I uploaded on my site sometimes ago has had over 400,000 views to date on my Youtube site. Numusicstreet click here to see for yourself

Another main advantage of Youtube and sites like Myspace is that you can place links on these sites to your own websites, this is a very good way of driving people to your sites where they can learn more about you and your music for example where to buy or download your music, your next performance, forthcoming material etc.

Youtube is actually now so popular and important to the music industry that there is hardly any big main stream artist that does not have a presence on it and there have been cases where new artists have launched their careers just from being on youtube where they have been discovered. The Justin Bieber Sucess story for example sounds like a Fairy tale

Justin Bieber a 15 year old singer started posting videos of himself singing on Youtube in 2007 and built up a following of thousands of Fans got discovered by a record label excutive and ended up being signed to the Major Record label Island Records with Usher after a bidding war between Usher and Justin Timbalake to sign him. He has now gone on to perform with Usher and other big stars. Like Ludacris and Kanye West.

Naija Social Networks sites
Apart from Soundcloud, Myspace and Youtube there are numurous Niaja Social networking sites which have sprang up over the past couple of years two of the biggest being Sturvs.com Naijapals.com both sites get thousands of views per day and will guarantee that your music is targeted and promoted to an African/ Naija audience.

Online Radio

It's also a good idea to submit your music to online Naija radio stations to help promote your music and I would suggest Radio Palmwine and Wazobiafm which are very popular amongst the Naija Audience

Selling your music online
If you're into selling your music online as a download there are also hundreds ecomerce sites out there that will sell your music for you usually for a fee however the biggest and most popular choice for most musician is itunes and Amazon

Of course you could just set up your own e-comerce site and sell you music yourself if you have the time and know how to design and promote it or the funds to pay someone else to do so

Another desirable way is to register with sites that specialise in getting your music into itunes and as many of the big online stores as possible like Napster CD Baby, Amazon Mp3 emusic, Raphsody and so on. This is quite useful as it saves you the hard work of having to register with all the top online sites individually.

It also means you can control your music sales from one place, It is important at this stage to have a reality check.. having your music on all the big sites like itunes CD Baby and so on does not automatically means your will have hundreds of sales every day, you still have to find ways to promote your music by any means possible, get a fan base and people willing to pay for your music, but at least it's a start to have your music available in the major online stores ready to be downloaded when you do get that fan base.

Again there are many sites that provide this kind of service, two well known ones are Tunecore and Zimbalam which is a UK based website they both charge a fee and will get your music into most of the top Online stores. My preference would be Tunecore mainly because it's bigger, more sucessfull and seems to give better deals To learn more about Tunecore click on this link
